Pina Colada FroYo | Dog Treats

If you like Pina Colada..and getting caught in the rai…erm no I don’t but my dogs do 🙂 This recipe is a simple and quick way to make your dogs feel like they are sipping a little luxury on a budget.

Health benefits of our ingredients

Pineapple is a nutrient fulled treat for humans and dogs alike. The nutrients in Pineapple include: Vitamin C, Vitamine B6, Calcium and many many more. However, Pineapple should be ate in moderation due to its high fibre and sugar content.

Greek Yogurt is a live yogurt and contains many probiotics which are as great for dogs as they are humans. Probiotics can improve your dogs digestion and has been proven to aid in the ease of diarrhoea symptoms (if your dog has persistent diarrhoea please seek veterinary advice, look out for a future blog post on Greek yogurt)

Coconut Oil has been a topic of controversy for many years. It contains Medium Chain Triglycerides which is a good fat providing a huge amounts of benefits. Healthy skins and coat, improved digestion and reducing allergic reactions are including in it’s claims to health, the backlash coconut oil receives is due to the amount of bad fats within it. So, it is up to you whether you feed orally or apply topically to your furry friend.

Ingrtedients

Lets get started

From the very start; FroYo is a yummy 3 ingredient recipe:

1/2 Pineapple
Greek Yoghurt as needed
2 tbsp Coconut Oil

Ingredients for Pina Colada

Before I begin; I must apologise. You probably haven’t notice, the eagle eyed of you have. I mention in my ingredient list that you need Greek Yogurt and in my photo two pots of yogurt 😮 the horror! Always use Greek Yogurt as for the benefits I have mentioned above. The yogurt in the first image is the yogurt I use, the dogs seem to like this brand best (available at Aldi: approx £1.70)

Firstly add your 2 tbsps of Coconut Oil to a dish and melt in which ever way you feel comfortable with; I use the microwave as this is the quickest. It should take less then a minute. Whilst the oil is melting; skin the Pineapple and cut into chunks. The chunks should be small or large enough for your blender to cope with.

Breville Blender

Add the melted Coconut oil, Pineapple & Yogurt (just a few tbsps at first) to the blender and blend. As more Pineapple is melted you can add more yogurt to suit.

Silicon Cake Moulds

The silicone moulds we use to freeze our FroYo we were able to pick up for £1 for 10 moulds; which is fantastic value. They are mini cupcake moulds and a great size for their use. The dogs love to lick, crunch and chew & these shapes offer them the ability to do so.

Husky Puppy vs Yogurt

So with a little help from my friend; we froze these amazing goodies and the dogs LOVED them! We add 1 FroYo to a meal once per day to aid the good bacteria in their gut, as Wren is a fussy diva this seems to be the only way to get her to eat her fruit :’)
